7 Essential Oils You Have to Try Now for Healthy Glowing Skin

Essential oils have amazing benefits beyond the diffuser.  And one of the best ways to use them is on your skin. Using essential oils for skin care will uplevel your beauty routine and get your skin looking more vibrant and healthy.

But before you start applying them it’s important to follow very careful safety measures, as improper or excessive use can result in skin irritation.

Safety measures we recommend:

1) Avoid applying an essential oils directly to your skin,

2) Always blend them first into a carrier oil or unscented base cream, lotion or gel before applying,

3) Always use a tiny amount, like 1-3 drops blended into a carrier if using on your face, or 5-10 drops blended into a carrier if using on your body,

4) If you are known to have overly sensitive skin, then we strongly recommend doing a “patch test’ on your arm with the chosen oil blended into an unscented carrier and waiting 24 hours to see how your skin reacts.

Once you follow these safety measures, you’ll be able to experience the many amazing benefits of using essential oils on your skin. They have been shown to improve circulation and vibrancy, balance skin tone, even out discoloration, fortify and protect the skin against environmental stressors and pathogens, and support the skin’s natural ability to regenerate and heal.

What oils are good for the skin?

Here is our list of 7 of the best essential oils for glowing skin:

Frankincense - Frankincense essential oil is steam distilled from the resin, the interior fluids of the tree that help keep the tree nourished and protected.  To get the resin out, the tree is stabbed, to allow for the resin to seep out, where it is then collected and distilled.  Since ancient times, Frankincense resin has been highly valued as a wound healer because its unique composition of molecules have the ability to support our skins’ natural ability to regenerate. For this reason the benefits of using Frankincense in our skincare routine include reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, soothing inflammation and irritation, fortifying the skin against infection, and promoting tissue regeneration.

Geranium - Geranium essential oil is steam distilled from the leaves of a tall herb-like bush.  The aroma is very sweet, green and rose-like and the essential oils are made up of a special arrangement of molecules that have a wide range of benefits for the skin. Geranium essential oil is rich in properties that are very cleansing and clearing, making it a great choice for troubled, spotty and combination skin.  As one of its most powerful actions to to balance skin tone, even out discoloration and promote vibrancy.  Like Frankincense it also has the ability to soothe away inflammation and nurse the skin back to its natural glowing state.

Lavender - Lavender essential oil is steam distilled from the flowering tops of the lavender bush. It’s probably one of the most popular essential oils to use in our skincare routine, and since ancient times has been a plant that can help soothe away almost any kind of ailment.  Lavender oil benefits for skin are many but our favorite ways to use Lavender oil for skin are to soothe away irritation and inflammation, cleanse and fortify against infection, support our skin’s natural ability to regenerate and heal, even out skin tone, and make the skin look less stressed and more vibrant.

Palmarosa - Palmarosa essential oil is steam distilled from the plant's long blades of grass-like leaves.  Since Palmarosa is a botanical relative of lemongrass and citronella, it also contains properties to ward off microbes and pathogens.  So it is a great choice for amping up the cleansing and detoxifying actions of cleansers and scrubs.  It has a sweet floral gentle aroma that blends beautifully with Lavender and Geranium, and like those two essential oils it also supports skin vibrancy, soothes away inflammation and can protect and nourish the skin.

Patchouli - Patchouli essential oil is steam distilled from the slightly dried leaves of the Patchouli plant, which happens to be a botanical relative of Lavender. This makes Patchouli a great choice to soothe away irritation and inflammation, and promote the skin’s natural ability to heal and protect itself.  But one of the most unique benefits of Patchouli essential oil is its ability to dry up damp conditions, and combat skin problems like acne prone skin and outbreaks that could be caused by natural fungus.

Ylang Ylang - Ylang Ylang essential oil is steam distilled from the large fragrant orchid-like flowers of a tree that grows in very humid and tropical climates. The components that make up the oil are very soothing to the skin, and help the skin look less stressed and dull. Like Lavender and Frankincense, Ylang Ylang can support our skin’s natural ability to regenerate, and offer a glowing youthful appearance – making it a perfect choice for mature fragile skin. I am new to essential oils and wish I had discovered you sooner! I just received a couple of oils and can’t wait to try them. I had already ordered frankeninse and helichrysium from another company. I really like them, especially the helichrysium. It has helped my foot and leg pain. I will order it from you next time. The shipping cost of other companies is very expensive! I love that your oils are organic! What is the best oil for vertigo? Thanks!

"I recently researched the best treatment for dry skin and scalp...I then came across some helpful info on the benefits of Jojoba oil and decided to look for an organic brand. Your oil is truly wonderful. I now use it exclusively for skin and scalp, only adding frankincense essential oil for its calming effects. This combo is exceptional. I'm very glad I found Cliganic."
